My particular interest is primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. I have been a member of the Arthroplasty Society of Australia since its inception, and was President of the same in 1997. I am involved in the development and investigation of hip and knee replacements. In particular the Epoch composite total hip replacement, and also the principal scientific advisor to the Dragon total knee replacement study in South East Asia, which involves twenty surgeons from across the region.

I graduated from the University of Sy91ley in 1974, and did my resident and orthopaedic training at the Royal Newcastle Hospital and in the United Kingdom.

In 1975 I was the medical officer to the Australian Himalayan Expedition in Northern India. I became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1984 and in the same year commenced specialist practice in Canberra. In 1987 I was elected to fellowship of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.

I have given presentations on joint replacement surgery at numerous meetings, including those held in Australia, South East Asia, Europe, United Kingdom and the United States. I served as a board member and deputy chair of John James Memorial Hospital and as a member of the Smith and Nephew Hip Arthroplasty Advisory Board.

Dr Michael Gillespie and I have developed the Canberra Hip and Knee Replacement Group, the specific aim is providing assessment, education, joint replacement surgery and follow-up, together with research, in our purpose built facility in the Calvary Clinic in Canberra. We provide a joint replacement service to the population of Canberra and surrounding New South Wales.
